Who Is Marsa Decker
For the last three decades I have planned and entertained for weddings and special events. I participated in every part of the wedding from rehearsal to ceremony to the entire reception and every part of a special event.
During that time I also taught music in elementary school. I retired from teaching and thinking about the future I had seen a need over the years in the wedding business for simple, non denominational, personalized ceremonies and felt impressed to provide that service. I have been a Universal Life Minister for 25 years. I am excited that Keep it Simple Weddings by Marsa Decker will fill that niche!!
In my private life I love to travel and do fun activities with my family and friends. I have 4 children and 9 grand children ranging from toddler to college age. I love the outdoors especially walking, biking and hiking. I even conquered the mighty Half Dome a few years ago!!
FAQs
Is there a pre-wedding consultation?
Yes, I encourage us to meet initially to ensure we both feel it’s a good “fit.” I also provide pre-ceremony consultations to get to know you better and create your ceremony. Much of this can be done electronically, depending on the couple's comfort level and preferred style of communication.
What is included in your services and what is your fee?
A full-service ceremony includes writing a custom ceremony, conducting the rehearsal, performing the ceremony, and properly filling out your marriage license. Fees range from $300 to $450, depending on location and date. Destination ceremonies are also available with a customized fee that may include travel expenses.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes, a non-refundable deposit is required upon signing the contract if you choose my services. The balance is due at the rehearsal or before the event. Custom arrangements are available.
Do you offer special pricing during the week?
Depending on the circumstances, we offer a variety of flexible options for weekday ceremonies.
What methods of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, check, Venmo, and Zelle.
Is a prayer and/or scripture required?
No, scripture or prayer is not required. Each ceremony is unique, just as every couple is unique. I help couples include the elements they really want in their ceremony. The only “requirement” is that you say your vows and are completely happy with your ceremony!
Can we write our own vows?
Absolutely! You can choose from a variety of standard vows or create your own. I can help you crystallize your thinking and provide samples and worksheets to assist you in creating your vows if needed.
Will we get to review our final ceremony?
Of course! I will email it to you for review to ensure it’s perfect. Any changes can be made without additional cost.
Do you require a rehearsal?
A rehearsal is not required but is certainly encouraged. I believe a rehearsal helps ensure that your wedding day goes smoothly. However, if a rehearsal is not possible, I will do everything to ensure the same smooth outcome.
What happens at the rehearsal?
At the rehearsal, we practice parts of the ceremony that require movement, such as the processional, where everyone will be positioned, handing off the bouquet, giving away the bride, exchanging rings, any special ritual (like candle lighting or presenting roses), and the recessional. Walking through these parts helps us work out any bugs and gives us “peace of mind” on the wedding day.
Do you usually attend the reception?
Although I appreciate the invitation, I generally do not stay for the reception.
What other services do you provide?
I am available for elopements, renewal of vows, baby blessings, funerals or celebrations of life, and other rites of passage.
